About Our Products
What Makes Us Different?
From day one, we set out on a mission to make the best quality pet-friendly candles and wax products possible, while sill offering a pleasant candle experience for humans. So, what makes us different in the mainstream candle industry, where you’re overloaded with choices?
Pure Soy & Beeswax
Most candle manufacturers that claim their candles are “soy” are actually using a “soy blend”. This is because soy wax is difficult to work with and generally don’t produce “pretty” candles. So they add other waxes, including paraffin, to their candles but still can still call them “soy candles” as long as they contain at least 51% soy. Our candles are indeed 100% soy wax, or beeswax (as labeled). Let’s not forget about the wicks too! Many other candle makers that are using 100% soy or beeswax are still using paraffin-coated wicks (you know, the part that is actually set on fire!). Our wicks are paraffin-free too. They are 100% cotton and are coated in either natural vegetable wax or beeswax.
Why Not Paraffin?
If you’re a candle connoisseur, you likely know that most candles are made with paraffin, mainly because it is cheaper and easier to work with. However, paraffin is derived from petroleum. Burning paraffin wax candles releases dangerous chemicals, such as carcinogenic benzene and toluene, into the air we breathe, which have been linked to lung diseases such as cancer and asthma. I know that loving pet parents would never intentionally expose their babies to something that is harmful when there are cleaner options out there like soy and beeswax.
Beauty Is In the Eye of the Beholder
Nobody’s perfect, right? Well neither are our candles, and we’re proud of it. This is just one way you can be assured we’re using 100% soy or beeswax. We knew when we decided to make pet-friendly candles that some sacrifices would have to be made. These waxes are not easy to work with for candle makers and are more expensive. The tops may not be completely smooth, they may have cracks or frosting/discoloration, pitting after burning, or the wax may pull away from the jar in some places (often referred to as “wet spots”). The good news is that this is all purely cosmetic, and none of it affects the performance of our candles.
Scent Strength
You may notice that some of our candles don’t give off quite as strong of a scent as you’re expecting. This is intentional with our brand. We have lightened the scent load so as to not overwhelm our four-legged friends. Dogs’ noses are at least 100,000 times more sensitive than ours! Strong scents can overwhelm them, cause sensitivity issues, and make them not feel well. At the same time, we understand that their owners would still like a pleasant smelling candle. We found our slightly decreased scent loadto be a nice compromise. We do offer a completely unscented soy candle in our line if you absolutely want no scent at all. Our beeswax line also has no added scents. All you get is that beautiful, natural beeswax fragrance.By the way, did you know that beeswax candles actually produce negative ions that don't cover up odors but actually clean your air of odors, pollens, smoke, dust, dust mites, and other allergens and hazards? This is the ONLY wax with this magical quality.
Safety in Scents
We only use certified Clean Scents™ in our candles. Simply put, these scents are just safer. They are formulated without phthalates and made without ingredients found on California’s Proposition 65 list. Fragrances with the Clean Scents™ designation go one step further by also avoiding these 5 main hazard groups:
• Carcinogens: These are materials known or thought to cause cancer.
• Mutagens: Materials that change the DNA of a cell, harming the cell and causing diseases like cancer.
• Reproductive toxins: Toxins that adversely affect reproductive organs and increase the risk of birth defects.
• Organ toxins: These are toxins that can cause adverse effects or disease within specific bodily organs.
• Acute toxins: Toxins that can cause adverse effects from a single exposure. Generally, this would be accidental exposure like spillage or ingestion.
